Description Builder unit. Human slave taken captive in a Dark Eldar raid. Plants warp spire pods to start building construction. Can walk away once planted and building will finish itself.

Tortured Slave

"No! Not the whip!"

These unfortunate souls, mostly humans captured during Dark Eldar raids, are utilized as builders once their masters tire of tormenting them. Sent out into battlefields hobbled and chained, Tortured Slaves plant Warp spire pods to start building construction. This allows the Dark Eldar structures to essentially build themselves, freeing the Tortured Slave to quickly begin other fortifications.

Tactics

The Tortured Slave is unique among builders in that it only needs to start a building's construction. At the start of a match, quickly place all of the structures you wish built; this allows them all to be built simultaneously and gives you a head start. Although most Dark Eldar buildings are rather slow to build, this allows you to save the cost and production time of building more Tortured Slaves and instead use the resources on something else. You can also save resources by refraining from purchasing additional builders until you have upgraded Slave Chambers producing souls to harvest.

Always keep Tortured Slaves harvesting souls when they are not placing buildings or repairing vehicles and structures. It is essential that you remember to keep your Tortured Slave busy. Otherwise, you may not have the soul essence to cast an ability that could otherwise turn the tides of the battle. Most players would keep Tortured Slaves at relatively safe locations to gather Soul Essence without interference but this tactic would hinder the immediate repairing of heavily-damaged Dark Eldar vehicles. Repairing the expensive and powerful Dais of Destruction should be of the highest priority.

When you have a Talos out on the field, it is much better to use the Talos instead for harvesting souls. The proactive player builds a lot of Torture Pits which will produce soul essence on their own. This is essential in the later stages of the game as Tortured Slaves become too slow and weak to effectively harvest soul essence, especially near the thick of the battle.
