Heavy jump infantry, effective at disruption and countering ranged infantry. Can be upgraded with a squad leader, stun grenades and anti-vehicle melta bombs. Can be be upgraded to first company Vanguard Veterans.


Assault Squads are Space Marine jump infantry units equipped with heavy armor, jump packs and close-combat weapons. Their jump packs allow for swift movement and disruption and they are more than a match for any ranged infantry and set-up team. They are at a disadvantage against dedicated melee specialists however. They can be upgraded with the anti-vehicle Melta bomb and a Sergeant. Alternatively they can be upgraded to Vanguard Veterans, resetting them to level 1, and losing any upgrades but turning them into very durable and hard hitting melee specialists.

Changes from retail DowII:Retribution

  • Cost decreased from Dow2 req 16.png500Dow2 pow 16.png50 to Dow2 req 16.png450Dow2 pow 16.png50
  • XP value increased from 210 to 240
  • Sergeant XP value increased from 250 to 280
  • Sergeant head changed to Thaddeus
  • Global value increased from Dow2 global 16.png17 to Dow2 global 16.png19
  • Blind Grenades now reduce weapon range by 75% for 20 seconds (10 seconds after the stun effect ends)
  • Melta Bomb should now snare Sentinels and Rhinos
  • Thunder and Lightning cost decreased from Dow2 req 16.png50{Pow|30}} to Dow2 req 16.png50Dow2 pow 16.png25 and build time from Time (seconds)30 to Time (seconds)20 seconds
  • Assault Squad is now immobile while upgrading to Vanguard Veterans


  • Durable jump infantry with negligible ranged damage
  • Most efficient at dealing with ranged blobs and set-up teams
  • Struggle against dedicated melee specialist without heavy support
  • Good synergy with the Apothecary as his heal allow them to retain their field presence
  • Can be upgraded into fearsome Vanguard Veterans, losing the option for grenades but greatly increasing their HP and combat efficiency.
