Basic ranged unit effective against other ranged forces but weak in melee. Can be upgraded with squad leaders that increase the squad size. Leaders will be the last to die. Data version: 3.19

The Guardsman Infantry Squad is the basic light infantry unit of the Imperial Guard. Unupgraded Guardsmen are one of the weakest units in the game, but with squad leaders, and possibly a weapon upgrade, they become a significant force. The unit also introduces some new mechanics to Dawn of War II gameplay.

  • The first unit to have its squad leaders always die last
  • Squad leaders increase the number of Guardsmen and allow reinforcing 2–3 models for the price of 1
  • The only non-hero unit that can build turrets; also builds deployable cover
  • Great synergy with Sentinels and Chimerae
  • A fully upgraded squad can have higher health and damage than a Tactical Squad
  • Vulnerable to AoE damage such as fire and grenades
