In this mission you need to bring Farseer Macha and Ranger Ronahn to speak with Warboss Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unter about a daring plan. But Gorgutz has a powerful weapon at his disposal that will make things difficult for you...

General Notes

You need a LOT of patience for this mission. Gorgutz has a massive Tractor Cannon that can pull meteor showers down and destroy entire platform sections of the map, which he will do on multiple occasions forcing you to relocate your base structures multiple times. What is even worse, at the start of the mission you will only have access to a single PoC allowing one single Requisition and Power node each, and the next two subsequent sections you warp to will have the same problem. Combining this with the fact that the more of any unit type you build the more you get a penalty to your resource incomes and you will see that you are profoundly resource-starved for the entire mission, especially Power. There are a handful of resource pickups scattered around the map, but they won't help much.

However, your very first main base site is both hidden and the Orks will not send attacks to it as long as you don't start attacking. So use this; park yourself at this first base, don't build any units at first, upgrade the PoC resource income rates and just wait, allowing the resources to build so you can go through all of your researches for Infantry, Vehicles and the like. Once you have completed all of the main researches, STILL don't build up units until you let enough resources build up (especially Power) to deploy them all at once; remember, building even a single additional troop of any kind will slow down your incomes, and it won't take much to completely zero out your Power income entirely.

What you will be facing:

  • 4 distinct combat sections with slightly different completion objectives each.
  • Mixed Ork infantry of all types
  • Broad spread of base structures and Waagh towers
  • A handful of Deffkoptas, Deff Dreads, several spread-out Big Trakks and a LOT of Dawn of War III/Killa Kans
  • You are forced to have Macha and Ronahn for two of your Elites, leaving you only one of your own choice.

The Eldar's painful lack of good anti-vehicle/building units, the massive spread of Ork vehicles and this mission's painful lack of resource income to the point of being unable to build up an excess of Power for troop replacements mandates a long-range sniping strategy to avoid unit losses entirely, if at all possible.

Mission Setup Prep

For your three Army Doctrines at setup, take:

  • Ranger Focus; the greatly increased sight range while in Stealth cover will be very handy for picking long range targets
  • Reaper Focus; having Dark Reaper attacks slow enemies will be notably useful
  • Focused Beam; the proposed tactics below make use of Dawn of War III/Fire Prism groups, and the beam attack being able to hit enemies outside of visually scouted areas will be handy

Walkthrough, Hard Difficulty

  1. First, take the initial base point and capture the PoC, you can safely fight the small group of Ork infantry there. Do not build any more units of any kind until step 8, and do not move anything past the second Stealth cover.
  2. Switch all of your Ranger squads to Hold Fire, you don't want them inadvertently attacking from stealth, and move them into the second Stealth Cover right next to you.
  3. Upgrade the PoC as far as you can by getting its Requisition and Power nodes built, and upgrading its production capacity twice.
  4. Upgrade your Webway Assembly to Tier 3, followed immediately by the last production upgrade on the PoC
  5. Build the Soul Shrine and Sky Portal, and perhaps one more Webway Gate. The mechs will not be suitable for the following tactics so you can skip the Infinity Portal to save time.
  6. As mentioned in General Notes, now starts the slow grind; don't build a single unit of any kind that will slow down your resource production, namely Power. Be patient, let the resources build up and go through your ENTIRE tech tree; you will be using primarily Fire Prisms, Rangers, Dark Reapers and Shadow Spectres.
  7. Once you have done all of your tech research, wait until you have enough resources stored up to build 2 Shadow Spectres, at least 8 Dark Reaper squads, at least 2 Fire Prisms, a couple of Rangers, and a couple of spare Bonesingers, all in one burst (you'll need approximately 850 power, you should have plenty of Requisition)
  8. Your main attack force (so Hotkey them by groups as you see fit) will be 6 of the Dark Reapers (leave 2 behind with all of your Elites and Banshees for defense), Fire Prisms, at least one Ranger squad in Hold Fire stance, at least one Bonesinger and at least one Webway Gate. Also make sure to create a Webway Link between that Gate and your Webway Assembly.
  9. The first main section has you simply attack enemy forces until enough of them have been killed. Start by having your Ranger squad moving forward to scout, ideally into a Stealth cover to have increased sight range. Plant your group of Dark Reapers behind them to make an anti infantry firing line along with the Bonesinger, and warp in the Webway Gate close enough to have Fleet of Foot active. Then start picking off targets with the Fire Prisms; if Vehicle Damage was maxed out in step 6, it should only take two beam shots to destroy a Killa Kan. Infantry will often dodge the AoE blast of the Prisms, but if they approach you just back off the Fire Prisms and let them get minced by the Dark Reapers. Continue slowly moving forward doing this taking out targets one by one, and you should be able to clear the platform. Also make sure to collect all of the resource pickups in the zone.
  10. Once the enemy is considered defeated you will have a limited timer to get your forces to the next platform section. This area will have already been scouted. First, send all of your outer forces warping through your mobile Gate back to the main base, teleport the Gate to the new site but out of the way to allow space for your other buildings, warp ALL of your forces through your main Webway to the new site via that Gate, then warp all of your buildings over. If you don't have everything moved when the timer ends they won't necessarily die instantly, when the Meteor Shower starts it still takes at least 10-15 seconds to actually destroy the area, but still don't be slow.
  11. The second main section requires that you destroy every building. Slowly push forward doing this. With the Power resource pickups available in this area you should be able to collect enough to build one additional Fire Prism, which is highly recommended saving up for. BE WARNED, there is a Big Trakk deep in the farthest-away base and it can out-range your Fire Prisms (who are revealed briefly on the map whenever they fire, long enough for the Trakk to get at least two shots off at them). Your Fire Prisms, if you maxed their health in step 6, can handle a couple of shots but try to avoid them; they're also briefly stunned for a second or two by the AoE blast of the Trakk. You WILL start getting occasional counterattacks coming to your base including from some areas off-map, so as before make sure to save at least 2 Dark Reaper squads, all of your Elites and all Banshees behind close to the PoC for defense.
  12. Once all of the buildings are destroyed, as before you have a brief timer before the area is destroyed. Just like before, warp back through the Gate, move the Gate to the new site, warp your entire army through to it then warp all of your Buildings.
  13. The third main stage has you destroy key Scrap piles all over the map, push through like before. Also like before, be warned there is another Big Trakk at the furthest base. Keep using the careful scouting and artillery tactics. With the Power pickups you collect in this area and prior you should be able to build yet another Fire Prism, which is highly recommended.
  14. Once all of the Scrap is destroyed, yet again you need to warp to the next site as before following the same process.
  15. In the fourth and final stage, your only goal is to destroy the main HQ of Gorgutz within 30 minutes. This isn't too difficult to accomplish with a more aggressive attack, and you win the instant the building is destroyed; just sight it with a Ranger squad and hit it with everything you can.
